Heeeee's BACK!!!

Phew!

So I have been a lone woman in the wilderness for 4 weeks and it has been... okay. The first week was miserable and the day before he got home was bad too since B's flight got canceled, so he came home a day later than expected, but all in all, though it went by slowly, we kept really busy. It wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for Maleia. She has this insane and amazing connection with her father and was literally sobbing for 3 days in a row. One night she was sobbing so hard, that I just held her in front of the computer to wait until B got home from work in the US. At 11 pm our time he finally got on the computer and Maleia grins from ear to ear and in between sobs and catching her breath says, "Hi (sucking in, hu-hu) daddy!! (hu-hu) Are you (hu-hu) coming (hu-hu) home (hu-hu) tomorrow?" Daddy says, "Only 3 1/2 more weeks honey!" Maleia responds, "Is that a (hu-hu-hu) long time?" Daddy, "Not if you stay busy and talk to me every day on the computer." It was so sad.

There were a few nights of that. Then Maleia wakes up another morning super excited and running aroung the house looking frantically for something. She sees me and runs up to me yelling, "Daddy's home!!!" I respond very carefully, "Almost. He only has 3 more weeks, sweetie!" Maleia, "No. I saw him come home. He read me books in my bed last night." Me, "I don't think so babe. But do you want to see him and talk to him on the computer this afternoon when he wakes up?" She looks around, crumbles to the ground, silently started to sob and says in a small voice, "It was only a dream." And continues to cry in my arms for a few minutes. Thankfully, that first week I tried to have something planned every day, we saw and talked to him on the computer, and I kept them busy around the time he would normally come home. sigh. The few weeks that followed they got more and more used to it. Maleia would be a little sad, especially at night, but it was easy to get her mind off of it and switch it to a happy conversation.

Wow. It was defintely harder than I thought, but I can't complain since I know there are so many families that go without their husband and father for months and months at a time while they are serving in the military. Mine was safely in an office and came home after only about one month. No biggie, right? We still missed him tons.

I think it's my turn for a break... ;)

P.S. And what is with the "everything breaks and goes a-wahl" right when the husband leaves town??

  1. Oh poor Maleia! I don't know who that's harder on -her or you.

  2. I am right there with you... Tyler leaves (at least it was only for 5 days) and the car breaks among other things. What is the deal!? I am so glad Brandon is back home =)

  3. I know how much it stinks to have your hubby gone for so long. I can only imagine throwing the kids into the mix. Autrey has been doing out-of-state clinicals for a total of 4 months out of the last year while I have been teaching. I am ready for him to come back from his last one in a few weeks so he can stick around for good!
