B would have killed me if I would have kept this hat for Dylan.
We just borrowed it for a night while B was gone.
Right after I cut his hair! The faux hawk is his everyday do.
Though, it seldom stays long enough to get a good pic of it after all his moving and shaking.
He loves hats! He's grown out of his BYU hat and even this one is already small, so we are asking Santa for some more.
My little man turned two today and I'm not sure if I am ready to let him grow up or not. His development over the past year is ASTOUNDING and I can't even fathom trying to write everything. But I do want to say that this little baby of mine has transformed into a little boy. Full Blown. Barbie gun fighting and all. I was floored when he picked up a baseball bat for the first time just after learning to walk (granted it was a princess baseball bat) and went to hit a ball with it. No one taught him that. No one even showed him that. He just KNEW. He is ALL boy. He will pick up a ball and just throw it to me. There's no dialogue like, "Mommy, wanna play catch?" He just assumes that I will throw it back to him. In no time flat, guests at our house are playing catch with Dylan. He just sucks them in. He is so even tempered and mellow. His tantrums are all boy as well. He gets mad, turns to run away, and hides behind a curtain or something until he calms down. And I can't help but think it's adorable when I see him run to the bookshelf after getting angry, and take a book to his "Stewing Spot" behind the curtain, sit down with feet sticking out of the curtains and read until he's ready to come out to play again. I'll even go in the room, see just his feet sticking out and ask him if he's okay and he yells, "I'm hiding!"
Dylan is now a HUGE 2 year old who loves to play with balls, tackle anyone sitting on the ground, and pester his sisters. Yes, he has now gained the respect of brothers everywhere with his rough housing and tricks. His sisters can stand a little rough housing now and then. They will run to me and say, "Dylan tackled me!" My response, "Was it from behind? If not, it's fair game. Tackle him back!" The difference is that Dylan does it because he thinks it's FUN and the girls do it because they are mad. Oh well.
Dylan's favorite pastime as of late is basketball. We have a few friends with a little basketball hoop and he has gotten pretty good. They are all impressed with his range already. So guess what he got for his birthday? We got a little bigger one so it can last longer than the baby ones. Even the girls are getting into it. Woohoo! Family fun. We now have enough players for a team, so if anyone wants a little rumble with the hoops, let us know.
Dylan is still my little boy. He's getting less and less clingy to me, but he's a little nervous around people he doesn't know still, so he won't let me put him down until he is comfortable. When he gets hurt or it's time to go to bed and I am around, he wants ME. Though maybe a little frustrating at times when I am cooking or doing something, he helps me realize what is TRULY important. Taking care of him and having him around is an absolute blessing in our lives and I can't think of anything more that I want in life than having my three kids.

And for Christmas, I think we need to ask Santa for a boyish baseball bat and some boy guns. No respectable boy plays baseball with a Princess bat or fights with a Barbie. ;)

Happy birthday, Dylan! What a cutie/ handsome little boy! He sounds [like your other kids] he's got a fun personality. We sure miss you guys! (Btw, LOVE the photo of you hanging him upside down- the best!)
ReplyDeleteHe is so cute! I love the picture of the 2 of you together =) I can't believe he is 2 years old! We met him when he was 2 months old! That is a lot of 2's in one comment. I want to see some basketball pictures!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I cannot believe he is two! Your kids were supposed to stop growing when you left...
ReplyDeleteSecond, meh, that's the beauty of boys. They can play with ANYTHING. Mad's ponies growl and roar if you ask Jake. And dolls...they are like prize fighters. But definitely give him some boy toys and watch him obsess for years.
