No. no. nope. uh-uh. Negative. Negatory. Nem. Nincs. No. No. NO!!!
We do not have swine flu!
Thank you for your emails and your concerns, but we are just fine and no one has the flu. We have had a few illnesses, allergies, and teeth coming in, but no swine flu.
Gracias.

(Oh and I know you were wondering about us.)
We just got back from Mexico (3 weeks ago!!) and everyone thinks we have swine flu... brother. The gestation period is a few days to 14 days. Thousands of people died from the regular flu since January and this flu has killed just over a hundred. Only one reported case in America and the toddler was Mexican. The media and their scare tactics are driving me nuts!! My parents both live in Mexico and the Mexicans are totally laughing at the crazy Americans... life goes on.
We went into the Med Unit yesterday and the doctor there said that people were calling him about us! I went in to figure out what to do about Dylan's allergies and they made him wear a mask!!! Poor guy. Then they made him take the test to see if he has the swine flu and it was negative, but just to make sure, they "strongly urged" us to keep that mask on him just in case.
Lame.
And we didn't even get any allergy medicine out of the deal.
Do you think I feel like a leper?
If you would like an update or more info on this flu check it out here.
Look how sad he looks. We made it to the elevator with the mask and then took it off.
He HATED it and there was no point in my mind to force him to wear it. And I'm usually the one with the illness issues of people bringing their sick kids around and canceling on people if I don't know what my kids have or if I know they are contagious.
Oh, and Dylan is WAY into trains and airplanes and I can't find any here. (I miss Target and WalMart.) We have the IKEA train set (pictured) and one James the Train (from Thomas' series) from a friend, but that's it. If anyone finds any plastic ones, please let me know and I will PAY you to send them! And I have checked Amazon. They are wood.

Ha, that's funny. Not, that you are sick, but that people are reporting you guys. I think it is amazing how many people hear a bit of information, and proceed to freak out without actually becoming truly informed. Do you want Thomas trains or are cheap plastic ones okay? Why plastic? Shipping? Target used to have a cheap generic set that was plastic. And I thing Geo Tracks are plastic, but I'm not sure. We do the die cast Thomas ones that leave wheel prints when you chuck them at your brother's forehead. I'll keep my eyes on the look out for you. And I hope you all get better soon!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you don't have the swine flu! :) And I can't believe they made Dylan wear a mask! It really is just crazy how the media can blow such things out of proportion! It makes me mad!! Glad you're doing okay
ReplyDeleteI didn't even think about you guys being in Mexico recently. I've been worrying about the Talbots!
ReplyDeleteYou can tell people that you don't have swine flu, but Maleia might just have piggy fever. :)
(And her piggy presents will be mailed shortly. I always forget to mail things. Monday. It will be mailed Monday...)
Americans are ridiculous. This swine thing is a joke, but Americans always have to have something to be scared of. It makes me so mad!
ReplyDeleteThe fact the regular flu kills hundreds of thousands per year in the world and no gets all in huff about it, but a new strain kills 10 and all of the sudden we are freaking out infuriates me. Not to mention various international health organizations are saying swine flu is a minor strain of flu. Apparently the Avian Flu is much scarier (which doesn't scare me either).
Well I don't think its a joke. But I do think its a bit Chicken Little and the sky falling. That being said, we're glad you're okay!! ( PS- Im all for mailing masks to the people who called *about* you instead of calling you! They no wanna breathe with you? Then THEY should wear the mask!
ReplyDeleteThat's completely insane! They expect a baby to wear a mask? They're out of their minds. I think this swine flu thing has gotten way out of hand. I feel like waving a wand and crying, "Ridiculous!"
ReplyDeleteTotally crazy! I think it's all panic and craziness personally. People die from the regular flu too, duh. Totally over reacting. Poor Dylan. I have some extra plastic Geotrax trains if you guys would like them. Just give me your address and I'll be more then happy to mail them to my favorite Chapman family!
ReplyDeleteHow did you know I am out of diapers (6 left an counting!)... you're good! That's so sad that Dylan is being quarentined (spelled wrong, but you know) :) Yeah, if Mexicans think Americans have overdone the swine flu thing... then check out what Egypy did!!! They killed about 300,000 pigs and cattle due to the flu scare!!! Now THAT'S stupid! It wasn't even in pigs, until yesterday when the first reports came in from Canada! Silly people need to research more... All over the world!
ReplyDeleteBy the way... the first picture didn't load for a while... but when it did, I think I was going to VOMIT!!! That is dissssgusting!! Gross! Drink hand sanitizer, quick!! Yuck! Ohhhhhh, where's the soap! I need to get in my bubble to feel better... ahhhhh, much better! :) Can I tell you how much I LOVE that you comment on my blog! thanks a ton! I feel cared about!
By the way, you should have your kids start oinking around the medic area or around people who are afraid you have it!! That would be hilarious! :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that people called the doctor about you guys! Poor Dylan really does look miserable.
ReplyDeleteI've stopped listening to the news about the flu, it's just annoying now. But I do have to admit I was worried at first, a lot of the kids in this town go to Mexico for spring break, and the last thing I need is a sick baby!
Glad to hear you all are well, for the most part.
So, now that it's a few days later, how is everyone?
ReplyDeleteWe had our school canceled last week because two kids 'possibly' had it, which it turned out only one of them did. They have asked all parent groups to not meet with kids and have closed parks down. I really haven't tested HOW they did that yet. The schools in the town where the sick kids are (madison and hunstville are like, twins, conjoined by an interstate that runs between the two) have been closed till the 15th. They were even thinking of closing school down for 54 days, have a month of make-up work then just moving right into the new school year. Out of proportion?
Just a bit.
