4th of July - a little laterish

Reason #876 that I have a stellar husband: He actually insisted that we leave Budapest a week early to the US just so that we can celebrate July 4th here. (Or he was just really sick of us.) We missed him mucho, but there is just something about going to a Parade, no matter how po-dunky, going to a park to watch fireworks, no matter how many of your children whine about the loudness, and then get your inner-pyro out and light your own, no matter how much every single firework looks the same. Seriously, the Inter Galactic firework looked too suspiciously like the Showering Fireball and the Cyber Fountain and the Super Spaceball fireworks... hmmm. That's what we get for getting legal ones. Maybe next year I can get some "super spaceballs" and go to Wyoming and get some that make my kids whine that they are too loud.

It's just so American!

Jumping for Joy! It's Independence Day!!
(Cousin Courtney and Haley)

My wind blown beauty, Maleia. Yes, 4 wheelers are that cool. And this was one of the BETTER floats in the parade in Hooper, UT. It was awesome!

But let's face it, we go for the candy.

2 cuties celebrating their freedom to be as adorable as ever.

And then two more... look at those smiles! Was it really that cold? That is a sun umbrella...

The family ... minus B.
You can tell Dylan is a little bummed that his daddy isn't there. Or he may just be TERRIBLE at looking at the camera. It's weird that my 2 girls get their inner divas out when they see a camera, but Dylan gets all "agnsty teenagery" when he sees a camera. geez! Does he not know that these could end up in his wedding video??

We got to celebrate with my awesome sister and her Talbot brood.
Just look at that spread!

Unfortunately, my sister and brother-in-law had to go to the hospital because someone in their ward got seriously injured (back hoe incident... only in UT) so I got to play "Favorite Aunt" and take their kiddos to watch fireworks, minus the super cool teenage boy who would rather go watch fireworks while cuddling with his girlfriend. I mean, come on, we had GLOW NECKLACES!! We brought out the dollar store glow necklaces, microwave popcorn, Root Beer, and parade candy. Dylan and Maleia weren't huge fans of the sounds, so Brittany and I each had a child and sat covering their ears the whole time. That's harder than you think when your lap is smallish and your legs keep falling asleep.

While I was watching the fireworks, I couldn't help thinking about those serving/have served our country and have/had to watch/fire-off less brilliant and louder firepower in battle just so that we can have the freedoms that we enjoy. The imagery made me tear up. I'll blame the hormones.

God bless them and the USA!!

  1. Oh my gosh, I am so remembering my uncle going to Wyoming to buy the illegals. We would light them off at my Grandpa and Grandma's in ID for the 24th, every year! Oh and the Hooper firework show, my sister has a friend, and her backyard is like a front row seat for that show. Gosh, Utah really does the 4th good. We missed out this year. Kids were way too rotten, hahaha. Clearfield is known for doing a pretty spectacular show as well.
